The April 11th VVM meeting had a record turnout! 65 people came to see the new teams and catch up with old ones. Dede Wilson, an auditioning entrepreneur, augmented the usual food and drink with a table of intricate looking sweets. The program began with four auditioning companies, including Mission Control, Brave One, Seek Your Course, and Bakepedia.
Mission Control is an accounting and project management software to help the small, underserved non-profit achieve its mission. It is owned by Daniel Ross, who has over 20 years of experience as non-profit leader and financial manager, and has won awards and fellowships for innovation and social entrepreneurship
Brave One is a communications agency dedicated to helping companies face new global realities by embracing new, emerging media strategies. Jesse Mayhew is the CEO.
Seek Your Course is an online resource that connects adults who are hungry for creative engagement to life-altering, creative experiences. Jess Greene, founder and a one-time schoolteacher, now teaches at workshops for creative expression.
Bakepedia is your go-to resource for everything baking related. Ultimately it will contain videos (original and otherwise), book, equipment and ingredient reviews, interviews, up-to-date information on trends, a place for all of you to share pics of your baked goods, a Q&A forum, recipes and much, much more. Dede Wilson, its creator, has authored 14 cookbooks and is a co-editor of Bon Appetit magazine.
All the teams were polished and willing to learn, and all have been formally entered into VVM.
Next, presentations were made by teams already accepted into VVM. Cloud2Market is developing a revolutionary mobile app that redefines the call experience to increase customer satisfaction and reduce costs. They were followed by Smalltalk, which pairs attendees and exhibitors at trade shows and other events based upon common interests / qualifications. Finally, one of our most senior teams announces the results of its soft launch. PlayGiveWin had raised $40 in a week with The Word Game, specifically tailored with mentoring-related words. Jim Simon, the winner, took home a bottle of wine. This month the game is running again, and a portion of the proceeds will go to support VVM, which (you may have noticed) is expanding rapidly to meet the demand of entrepreneurs in the Valley. The new campaign is rolling now and ends on May 5, at the time of the next meeting. Another bottle of wine is up for grabs, so play here to support VVM and PlayGiveWin!
Many mentors and teams stayed behind to talk more after the conclusion of the meeting, and many mentors met downstairs at Champions afterwards, to talk and network.
The next meeting is on May 9.
