“At VVM I learned to talk to my customers and really listen to what they need. Launching a minimum viable product and responding quickly is key. Don’t wait for perfect,” explained Speaker Sisterhood Founder Angela Lussier.
Based in Holyoke, Mass., the Speaker Sisterhood helps women to build confidence, boost public speaking skills and maybe even change the world. Angela came up with the idea while participating in VVM’s Startup Accelerator program.
“A public speaking client asked where she could go to practice her speech and I realized the offering she needed – a community of women who could support her in her public speaking journey – didn’t exist. We launched one public speaking club in Springfield, Mass. and emails from interested women started pouring in. It was then I realized there was a real need for this type of opportunity,” Angela said.
Rather than sit on the idea, she immediately acted, adding Amber Ladley as creative director and Cathy McNally as director of program development and training. She recently launched a licensing model that allows women all over the world to lead their own club using the Speaker Sisterhood’s signature curriculum and brand.
Angela also took the self-funding route and is currently in the midst of hosting a crowdfunding campaign during Women’s History Month.
“We see our work as a movement, not just a training program. We invite women to join our community and work alongside friends to find their voice and their mission,” she added.
